Check out this great festival, coming up in the month of July:
2009 marks the 18th Annual Dixon Place HOT! Festival, a pioneering festival of queer performance and culture.
This year HOT! Festival will be presented at the brand new Dixon Place theater facility at 161 Chrystie Street on the Lower East Side. In addition to a state of the art 120-seat black box theater, there is an intimate performance cafe that recalls the old living room space of Dixon Place on the Bowery.
Presently HOT! Festival is scheduled to run from July 1 – August 1, 2009 with a blow out kick off event scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 which includes the opening reception of a photography exhibition by Liz Liguori featuring a Who’s Who of NYC’s queer, downtown performance scene. July 2 and 3 sees the debut workshop presentations of a new show by Big Art Group, and the following week we proudly present our 2009 HOT! Festival commission: the world premiere of Penny Arcade’s “Old Queen.”
Additional artists scheduled to appear (as of April 15, 2009): Nao Bustamante and Silas Howard (Foxy Moron), Colman Domingo, Dynasty Handbag, Lisa Kron, VGL Gay Boys, Jeff Hnilika, John Kelly and Carol Lipnick, Richard McCann, Edgar Oliver, Novice Theory, Suzanne Snider, and “The Mattachine Project” written by Andy Horwitz and directed by Stephen Brackett. – Hot Festival Website
